Do you know this man?

With a career that is now about to enter its fourth decade, Andrew Eames (@mounteagle) is one of the most experienced and prolific travel writers around today. Just look at the wrinkles.

He’s written five travel books of his own, two of which were ‘Book of the Week’ on BBC Radio Four, and edited many, many more. He runs a website about Germany, speaks at book festivals and travel writing seminars, and can be heard on the radio (but reckons he’s too shy for TV). UK Press Gazette recently ranked him 6th in the UK’s top 50 travel writers, and the Sunday Times rated his latest book, Blue River Black Sea, in the top six published in 2010.

Besides all that, he continues to contribute to a wide range of national newspapers and magazines (see Latest News for links).

So why isn’t he already a millionaire?

It’s a question I’ve been asking myself.

    Mr Eames!

You’re one of my great writerly heroes! For the purposes of initial contact I should probably tone this down. Anyhow, I have been reading your writing for a long while now – I have many familial connections to Singapore, travel writing and absolutely adore Agatha Christie; in fact, Blue River and The 8.55 to Baghdad are two of the (very few) books I wish I’d written.

I’m currently completing a Master’s at Harvard and, on the off chance you are visiting the East Coast in the next two years, I would very much like to extend an invitation to speak here: it’d be an honour to have you. (I’m attached to the literature department, east asian studies and international studies and you really could choose to speak on whatever you like).

    My very best wishes,
